Yes, it took more time to prepare but it did make me focus more on the individual family I was about to see. The visit was strange at first. Sometimes it's not the families who write to us, it's the parent educators we train. Recently Parents as Teachers deepened its approach to working with families. Now, with an emphasis on family well-being, parent educators are trained to focus not just on child development but on building protective factors within each family that provide an environment in which parents and children grow and develop together.
