ADMINISTRATION
Business Development Intern
Parents as Teachers seeks an innovative self-starter to assist in scaling up the unique and proven means by which the organization’s approach is implemented at the local level. This is an exciting opportunity that will allow the organization to positively impact greater numbers of parents and children. The position will report to the Director of Business Development and Innovation.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Researching the most effective ways in which Parents as Teachers is delivered throughout the United States.
- Working with the Policy Director and Resource Development Director to identify available governmental and philanthropic funding for parent engagement and education services. This will also include exploring new social finance instruments such as social impact bonds, pay-for-performance contracts, program-related investments, etc.
- Identifying prospective organizations and geographic markets to scale the Parents as Teachers approach.
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications department to develop targeted marketing materials and to seek opportunities to present at various conferences throughout the country.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a background in business or economic development with an interest in working for a social enterprise. MBA or MSW candidate preferred.

FINANCE
Accounts Payable Assistant
Parents as Teachers is looking for a part-time Accounts Payable Assistant who will be responsible for the processing and submitting for payment all Parents as Teachers invoicing.
Responsibilities:
- Handle all vendor inquiries.
- Process all accounts payable invoices for payment.
- Prepare accounts payable checks.
- Process accounts payable reports, maintain all accounts payable files, and prepare analysis of accounts, as required.
Qualification:
Education: High School diploma with two years college preferred, but not necessary.
Experience: At least two years experience in accounting functions required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of Accounting software, Internet software and Spreadsheet software required.

Web Developer
Parents as Teachers is looking for an energetic, highly motivated, task-oriented contract Web Developer. The right person will demonstrate that they take initiative, enjoy finding solutions to a varying number of challenges, are detail-oriented, and take extreme pride in their work. This person is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of our company web-based tools and will learn the Aptify eBusiness system and Sitefinity CMS.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement Sitefinity-based solutions to meet project or task needs.
- Develop web pages and ensure that the system functions according to design. Develop as needed in the Aptify system.
- Development of robust and user-friendly .NET-based web applications.
- Keep up to date with and be proficient with latest web tools, technologies, standards and trends.
- Perform routine site maintenance as needed.
- Application/Framework design as needed.
- Manage and take ownership of project tasks, timelines, deliverables and communication.
- Assist in gathering requirements and project specifications when needed.
- Provide technical assistance to users for the e-business applications. Must learn and understand business functions of software being developed.
- Other tasks as needed for successful project completion.
Qualification:
Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred, related experience and training/education will be considered.
Experience:
Fluent in the following environments/technologies:
- HTML5, VB.net, SQL, CSS, Javascript
Familiar with the following environments/technologies:

Director of Tribal and Head Start Programming
The Organization: Parents as Teachers is an international non-profit supporting the education and engagement of parents and the early development and education of their young children. Working through partnerships in all 50 states and 7 other nations, we are designated as an “evidence-based” home visiting model and one of the leading approaches to life-long literacy.
The Position: The Director of Tribal and Head Start Programming is a significant new position for a leadership-centered individual with a unique set of experiences. This position will be responsible for the management and integration of several tribal-focused programs and the development of a new, more focused approach toward working with Head Start and Early Head Start programs in states and Native American regions. The position will manage a current team of 8 staff who provide technical assistance, support and coordination to mostly tribal programs. Applicants must be comfortable interacting with high-level state and tribal leadership, and possess strong team-building and management skills. The position is located in St. Louis, Missouri.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic thought leadership on ways to integrate Parents as Teachers into Head Start/Early Head Start programs and Tribal agencies/organizations that improve the parenting skills of young parents.
- Develop a strong new Tribal Programs Department that draws together a team of seasoned professionals from within the organization.
- Bring expertise that will inform Parents as Teachers approach toward our work with Early Head Start and Tribal programs.
- Build relationships and partnerships with Tribal and state leadership responsible for home visiting programs.
- Work in collaboration with the Public Policy Department to advance and advocate for public policies that strengthen Tribal Home Visiting and Head Start/Early Head Start.
- Collaborate with the Department of Affiliations and Program Support to transition new programs and affiliates into Parents as Teachers systems.
- Collaborate with Training and Curriculum staff to align trainings and curriculum to programs within this focus area.
- Significantly grow the Parents as Teachers footprint in Tribal Communities, Head Start and Early Head Start programs.
- Work with the Resource Development Department to seek resources to build capacity to serve communities in states and Tribal communities.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
- 5-7 years of successful leadership of home visiting and/or early childhood programs.
- Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.
- Successful staff management experience required.
- Deep understanding of Tribal culture and politics.
- Experience with Head Start and specifically Early Head Start programs.
- Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Established relationships with Tribal and Head Start leadership.
- Experience with curriculum and training development.
- Success as a relationship builder.
- Track record of effective team building.
- Must be able to analyze, synthesize, and summarize information accurately, clearly, and within a short time-frame.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with community and national partners, and staff to accomplish program goals.
- Strong computer skills, including mastery of Microsoft Suite; Adobe products a plus.
- Self-starter, able to work independently but also as part of a collaborative team.
- High energy, strong work ethic, and passion for this work.
Location: St. Louis, Missouri (considerable travel may be required)
Employment Start Date: July, 2013 (or sooner)
